Taking Flight

I remember that I was very excited about the last session as we have no course to discuss and after mega project presentations for which we were preparing for almost the last two months during the last session, this session is much needed. We were waiting for 2:00 Pm but due to some emergency situation, our facilitators delayed that session to 5:30 Pm. We felt sad because we had to wait for another 2 and a half hours.

But then 2 and a half-hour passed and finally, the moment came when our last session started. At that moment, I realized that it was not that easy to say goodbye to everyone as I thought. Well, if I’m being honest, a part of me wanted this to an end since the stress of managing fellowship work with university work was getting a bit too much to handle but when it actually was the ending time, I realized that NO I didn’t want this journey to end.

The session started with some questions from our facilitators that how this fellowship helps us growing, what changes we feel in ourselves. Also, our super great facilitators ( Ma’am Yusra and Ma’am Aalia) appraised our whole batch efforts. They appraised us for how we did 100% PW during the fellowship. The best thing is that we broke Amal's history by raising 3,25,000 Rupees funds for the Edhi foundation. Our facilitator told us how everyone in the Amal academy praises our efforts. The words of our facilitators made us feel proud. Then, it shifted towards games which once again helped us to practice everything we had learned so far including leadership, time management, teamwork, brainstorming, etc. The game ended on a great note and we won that game. It was too much fun.

The last session was the longest and best session I had in the last three months. Although the last session particularly didn’t help me think about what I want to do going forward because it was the whole journey of fellowship which made me set my SMART goals and I want to accredit to my whole three-month journey for what I am now. But, there was one line said by one of our facilitators on our last session that stays in touch, keep updating us about what’s going on in your life and career. That thing motivated me that I have to do something great as soon as possible to let them know so that they can be proud of themselves because they prepared me for this and I finally did this.

Amal always made us continue practicing what we started, to keep things we learned sustainable. The friends I made there are very close to my heart. Since we all are now aware of each other’s fields and are connected on social media, we will keep sharing the memes and professional posts (job advertisements, etc) to ensure a lifelong connection. The business we started will be one way to stay in touch with the Amal family.

I’m proud of the person I now am after this fellowship. This has changed me and impacted me in more ways than I ever could’ve imagined. Amal is literally the best thing that happened to me in 2020. The things I have learned at Amal are not only professional skills, but they are the attributes everyone should possess and practice in everyday life. Gratitude, Humility, Honesty, Hard work, Leadership, Empathy, etc are the traits Amal made us practice from day one, and by continuing to do so, I ensure to use what I learned in my future life as well. This has been an amazing journey! With an intense and overwhelming nostalgic feeling rushing over me and with a very heavy heart… Goodbye Amal! 💕
